The Certificate in Hazard Analysis and Control is a Level 9, 10-credit programme designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in identifying, assessing and controlling workplace hazards.
The programme examines the principles of occupational hygiene, risk management and environmental, health and safety systems, enabling learners to evaluate workplace risks and implement effective control measures. It is suitable for professionals with health and safety responsibilities, as well as those seeking to develop specialist expertise in hazard management and occupational risk control.
Through a combination of applied learning, case studies and practical activities, learners develop the skills required to support safe and compliant working environments across a range of industries.
This programme explores the identification, evaluation and control of workplace hazards from both technical and management perspectives.
Learners will examine occupational hygiene principles, chemical safety and toxicology, environmental health and safety management systems, workplace exposure controls, and the monitoring of hazards such as noise, vibration, radiation and airborne contaminants. The programme also covers relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, risk assessment methodologies, and the influence of human factors on workplace safety performance.
Through practical and applied assessment, participants will develop the ability to evaluate hazards, recommend appropriate control measures, contribute to organisational safety programmes, and communicate technical safety information effectively.
The programme is delivered part-time, with approximately three contact hours per week, and is assessed through a combination of continuous assessment (40%) and practical assessment (60%).
The entry criteria for the following Awards at level 9 is that applicants progress from L8 major qualification with a minimum 2:2 or an equivalent professional qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.
All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants who do not have a Level 8 qualification at a 2.2 award level and who have relevant work experience and or other certificates and qualifications may also be considered through the University's RPL procedures. Relevant professional experience may be considered and individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis through RPL procedures.
South East Technological University reserves the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
