Programme Overview

The Certificate in Community Studies (30 ECTS, Level 6) is for community volunteers and activists, who wish to develop their knowledge, understanding and practice of community education and development.  Students/Participants will learn to reflect on their own community development work practice, acquire skills in group work and facilitation and set goals for their own personal development.

This course comprises the following 10 credits modules: (Please click on each module in the list for a detailed description)

  • Personal Effectiveness for Community Workers (10 ECTS)
  • Group Work and Facilitation Skills (10 ECTS)
  • Community Development (10 ECTS)

Applicants must:

  • be actively engaged in the Community and Voluntary sector.
  • be over 23 years 
  • Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit evidence of competency in English.  Please see details here

Suitable applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

Fees: Funded by WWETB.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this programme, graduates may progress to study the Higher Certificate in Community Development and education in SETU or equivalent programmes in other universities.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be able to work in a voluntary or paid capacity in community education and development settings.
