The online Certificate in Business Systems Analysis is a one year ICT Conversion Course designed to allow honours graduates from non-computing disciplines to acquire the industry-relevant ICT skills. It will equip graduates with the expertise and practical experience required to become suitable candidates for employment in the ICT domain, in roles such as Business Systems Analysts, Data Scientists, Project Managers and Data Analysts.

This programme focuses on core modules essential for learners to upskill and transition into a new IT career in Business Systems Analysis. Participants gain critical digital, transversal, and management skills tailored for the modern workplace. Delivered entirely online, the programme leverages cutting-edge technologies that reflect the demands of future-focused work environments.

The programme comprises the following five modules:

  1. Business Systems and Software Engineering - Equips students with techniques and methods to conceptualise and design IT processes.
  2. Enterprise Applications for Business - Explores enterprise applications that are essential for streamlining business operations and enabling seamless interaction across departments.
  3. Database Design and Development - Introduces the principles and practices of designing and implementing robust database systems.
  4. Data Analytics - Covers the fundamentals of data analytics, the analytics process, and the evolving role of a Data Analyst in an era defined by AI, automation, and digital transformation.
  5. Software Validation and Evolution - Provides essential knowledge and skills in software validation and verification, ensuring quality and adaptability in IT solutions.

An Honours Level 8 degree, or equivalent, in any discipline is required. Alternatively, applicants may be considered through SETU’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism.

Non-native English speakers must meet the University’s English language entry requirements.

Graduates of this programme can progress directly to the second year of the Higher Diploma in Science in Business Systems Analysis. This is also a part-time course, managed by the same core team and delivered through the same platform, providing a seamless continuation of learning and development.

It offers an excellent opportunity to further build expertise in HCI and Web Design, Project and Change Management, and Enterprise Data Interchange. Students also take a Career Development Skills module and have the opportunity to undertake a Work Placement or Industry-Led Project. This provides a valuable opportunity for students to apply the knowledge, skills, and competencies gained during the programme.

This experience ensures that students graduate with tangible evidence of their skills, enhancing their employability.

The programme also includes onsite workshops delivered in collaboration with industry partners. These sessions offer:

  1. Hands-on activities that foster student connections and support success in an online learning environment;
  2. Development of technical and soft skills (including problem-solving, teamwork, and communication);
  3. Direct employer engagement through networking and industry-led presentations.

These workshops provide valuable career insights, helping to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional expectations.

By integrating professional practices, practical projects, and employer engagement, the programme ensures that graduates are workplace-ready.
