This programme is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to promote pluralism, inter-culturalism, and diversity. Online Support

Students will have full access to a range of supports available online and through Blackboard, our virtual learning environment. These include our new online programme, PACE, which is designed to support students to access and effectively use library resources in order to complete assignments. Additional supports include an Academic Writing Centre and Maths Support Centre, freely available to all students.

Identity, Culture & Diversity
Key aspects of identity and culture; similarity and difference. The social construction of identity; disability, sexuality, age, gender, ethnicity, religion, family, class; social stratification; individual and group agency.
Theories of Equality
Basic equality; liberal equality; equality of condition; structural, personal & cultural dimensions of equality.
Race & Ethnicity
Understanding race and ethnicity; post-colonialism, minority ethnic groups in Ireland; interculturalism, multiculturalism ethnocentrism, concept of ‘other’, eurocentrism.
Gender
Analysing society from a gender perspective, feminist theories; liberal, radical, difference; gender proofing; gender mainstreaming; women and equality in Ireland.
Equality and Anti-discrimination in Practice
Equality of opportunity, outcome and condition, The welfare system, rights and responsibilities. Rights organisations and practical
approaches to promote equality and anti-discrimination.
Equality & Community Development & Workplace
Anti-discrimination practices and strategies, training, policies.
Legislative framework
Employment Equality Acts and Equal Status Acts, Equality Tribunal, Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, Disability Act, Irish Human Rights and Equality Act 2014.

Entry Requirements
