Presenters at 'Evolutionary Medicine in Sport & Exercise

The meeting hosted by EVOLVE gave researchers the opportunity to present their research projects on the topics of women in sport, and foot health

EVOLVE is a collaborative research group combining interests ranging from foot injuries, women in sport, footwear choices, and balance and footwear in Autistic children. The event saw researchers and postgraduates from HealthCORE within the Department of Health and Sport Science in Carlow come together to present their research projects, with attendees also given the opportunity to have their feet assessed.

Speaking at the event, organiser and lecturer Dr Peter Francis said, “The scale and quality of research on show today is testament to the hard work of the research group over the last three years. This was the seventh meeting of the group and easily our most comprehensive line up of speakers. Understanding human health and performance by studying the history of human evolution is something that fascinates us, as evolutionary biologist Theodosius Dobzhansky said ‘Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution’.”

The next meeting of EVOLVE will take place in May. It is hoped to have more new speakers both from within HealthCORE and external to the University take part.
