How to withdraw from an undergraduate course

For a number of different reasons, a student may find themselves in a position where they no longer wish to or are in a position to continue on their programme. In this case a student would withdraw or de-register from the University.

Withdrawing/Deregistering means that a student officially notifies the University that they are leaving their programme. Students remain liable for fees up to the date they officially withdraw from the University.

Before you make any decisions on leaving your course, we would ask that you link in with your Programme Director to help you to consider your options carefully.

If you decide to leave your course you must complete a Withdrawal from Academic Year form and submit it to the Admissions Office along with your student ID card. This form is can be downloaded below and is also available from the Admissions Office.

Please be aware that if you withdraw after the 31st of October, there will be fee implications. You will have a fee liability to SETU for the time you attended your course and should you return to 3rd level education in the future you may be liable for fees for the equivalent period of study. Future SUSI grant applications may also be affected.

How to withdraw from a programme as an International student

Non-EU students must inform the international office of their intention to withdraw from their programme of study.  This is usually done following consultation with the student’s Programme Coordinator or their Faculty Office.  The International Office provides a withdrawal form to Non-EU students and subsequently liaises with the Admissions Office to process the deregistration.

International students who secured an Irish Residence Permit on the basis of being full-time registered students of SETU must satisfy the requirements of the Immigration Authorities in Ireland, as outlined by the student’s local immigration office, once they have withdrawn from their programme of study.

Students must notify their local immigration office of their withdrawal and where any refund of tuition fees is due, the student must provide proof that they have surrendered their Irish Residence Permit and will be leaving Ireland.  Tuition fee refunds, where applicable, can only be processed once this confirmation of departure from Ireland has been received by the International Office.

Once deregistered / withdrawn a student will no longer have access to University facilities.

NOTE: A student has not withdrawn from their programme of study at SETU until the above process has been completed, discussion with an academic member of staff is not sufficient to withdraw / deregister.
