Practical Interventions for Children & Young People in Mental Distress
This 10 credit programme aims to introduce the student to a series of frameworks that will guide them through practice-based skills to communicate and assist children in mental distress.
The student will be able to demonstrate an ability to develop a rapport with children and young people and manage communication effectively with their families and comprehend the intricacies of communication differences between a younger child and an older teen.
They will be able to demonstrate an awareness of the subtle complexities of consent, confidentiality and communication when working safely with young people as well as critically appraise the current best practice of de-escalation of an young person in acute distress.
Delivery
Students will undertake an element of their learning online (80%), via primarily asynchronous (and some synchronous) modes. These will include lectures, online resources and workshops.
This programme can be taken as a stand alone certificate or as a module towards the PG Dip or MSc in Mental Health Practice in Children and Young People
Candidates must have a Level 8 qualification in a cognate discipline
There is no licence to practice involved in any of the awards, but each will enhance the student’s knowledge of the specific areas of children’s and young people’s mental health
