This semester, South East Technological University (SETU) has hosted lecturer training for academic staff from its Chinese partner universities, Henan University of Animal Husbandry and Economy (HUAHE) and Jilin Normal University (JLNU).

The university welcomed 22 lecturers from HUAHE and JLNU as part of its commitment to engage its partners in academic teacher training. The lecturers were nominated for the programme by their home institutions and are undertaking English language study and lecturer training via SETU’s Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) at its Carlow campus.

The group has been hosted in Carlow for the semester and have enjoyed touring some of Ireland’s most well-known tourist sites in their leisure time.
Donal McAllister, International Affairs Manager at SETU in Carlow, commented, “This training programme is a vital component in enabling the successful delivery of SETU programmes at our partner universities in China. We welcome any opportunity to deepen the engagement of faculty members on both sides".

Dr Gina Noonan, Teaching and Learning Integration Lead, said, “The programme has provided an invaluable opportunity for educators to come together and develop a shared understanding of pedagogical practices that support all our learners. We have been able to share our collective expertise, learn with each other and imagine innovative ways to enhance the learner experience within SETU and within our partner universities in China. It has been an extremely rewarding experience for us all in terms of our continuous professional development.”

SETU looks forward to welcoming a new cohort of trainee lecturers in January 2024.
