Overview

What is this Programme about?

The focus of this BSc Degree is primarily on the function and role of the Flight Operations Officer. Here the students will add to their Aircraft Flight Dispatching knowledge and skills with the addition of extra modules based on the role of the Flight Operations Officer.

Programme details

The aim of this programme is to give students a thorough introduction to the principles of flight dispatching including civil air law, ICAO, EASA and IAA roles, airline operations and air traffic management. The programme will also give students a good understanding of flight planning, aviation navigation and aviation meteorology as well as the principles of human factors and health and safety and safety management systems within the aviation sector.

Modules have been chosen and designed based on leading industry advice and consultation and research about student and employer demand. The modules chosen are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies required by the sector and includes additional academic modules linked to the aviation sector.

The core aviation syllabi come from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Flight Operations Officers/Flight Dispatchers Training Manual Doc 7192-AN/857 Part D-3 Second Edition 1998 and all ICAO annexes.

This programme will benefit those already working in the Aircraft Flight Dispatching / Flight Operations areas as it will provide them with the opportunity to validate their expertise with a recognised award. This programme will also attract those who wish to enter into this work area of the aviation sector.

Course Delivery

Classes are delivered using a hybrid approach involving a combination of pre-course reading, pre-recorded classes, live and onsite classes.

Online Support

Students will have full access to a range of supports available online and through Blackboard, our virtual learning environment. These include our new online programme, PACE, which is designed to support students to access and effectively use library resources in order to complete assignments. Additional supports include an Academic Writing Centre and Maths Support Centre, freely available to all students.
