Completing the MEd was a transformative experience for me. Modules such as Digital Education and Digital Creativity in the Classroom equipped me with the essential skills to engage students in a dynamic learning environment. My research project gave me deep insights into academic rigour, pedagogy, and curriculum development. I was able to apply my knowledge and skillset to my work both as Multimedia Educator ( WWETB) and now as Learning Technologist (SETU). The MEd has enabled me to advance into Learning Technology and Instructional Design, which are crucial and emergent fields in Education. The MEd gave me invaluable opportunities to network with colleagues from diverse educational contexts, who offered fresh perspectives and we supported each other throughout our studies.
Keith Byrne, Learning Technologist, SETU Waterford
Completing the Master of Education at SETU sparked my passion for research and unexpectedly charted a clear path for me into the world of academia. The programme not only enriched my knowledge of education theory and practice but also fostered lasting friendships and invaluable collaborations, revitalising my professional network. Since graduating in 2016, I can confidently say that choosing to study at the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at SETU was the best decision for both my career and personal growth. It consolidated my years of experience in education and propelled me into a new career in academia, where I continue to thrive and contribute to the field.
Dr Niamh Byrne, Lecturer in Education, SETU Waterford
The M.Ed. programme was a great opportunity to reflect on and update my teaching, learning, and assessment practices. The programme's applied focus allows you to implement the learnings piece by piece in a manageable fashion. As a lecturer in the 3rd level sector, I believe it's important to undertake formal training in pedagogy. I would encourage other lecturers, early career or senior, to enrol in the programme or selected modules. The support provided by staff and peers throughout was invaluable. The material is covered by a good mix of lectures supported by peer-to-peer learning which were a real highlight of the programme.
Martin Walshe, Lecturer in Sustainable Energy Engineering in the Department of Architecture & the Built Environment, SETU
