The BA in Employee Support and Wellbeing is a 12-month programme (level 7, 60 credits) which aims to provide the graduate with an interdisciplinary grounding and the required knowledge, skills and understanding relevant to the role of Employee Support and Wellbeing Officers in the workplace that complies with best practice, policy and legislation in Ireland.
The programme objectives focus on developing the students’ knowledge and skills in relation to the practice of Employee Support and Wellbeing as well as concentrating on workplace problems that are commonly experienced by employees. The processes and procedures for managing and coping with problems are explored and the interpersonal skills needed at the various stages of these procedures are identified and practised. For example, modules will explore substance misuse and addictions; common mental health problems; bullying and harassment; health and wellbeing in the workplace and evidence based practices that aim to promote a healthier work environment. This degree programme will further develop practitioners knowledge and skills for their roles as employee support and wellbeing officers and provide an evidence base for graduates and their practice.
Delivery
The BA in Employee Support and Wellbeing is a one year programme and delivered over 3 semesters. Semesters 1 & 2 will involve the delivery of 25 credits of learning and semester 3 will involve the delivery of a 10 credit work-based project. The programme will have a blended mode of delivery and class contact will take place on nine face-to-face days across the three semesters over one calendar year. A significant proportion of the programme will be delivered online, both synchronous and asynchronous modes with a recorded delivery feature. Students will take 10 x 5 credit modules and 1 x 10 credit module across the calendar year.
The BA in Employee Support and Wellbeing is a 60 credits programme. Students will undertake 10 x 5 credit modules across semesters 1 & 2 with a work-based project (10 credits) in Semester 3.
Semester 1 modules focus on the knowledge and skills for the practice of Employee Support and Wellbeing and includes modules related to the Employee Support and Wellbeing Practitioner, Managing Employee Wellbeing in the Workplace, Conflict Resolution Skills, Legislation and the Workplace and the principles and policy underpinning Employee Support and Wellbeing in the workplace. All five modules in Semester 1 are core modules that provide the foundational knowledge and skills attainment conducive to students completing the work that follows in semesters 2 and 3.
Semester 2 modules focus on workplace problems that are frequently experienced by employees. The processes and procedures for managing and coping with problems are explored and the interpersonal skills needed at the various stages of these procedures are identified and practiced. For example, modules will explore substance misuse and addictions; common mental health problems, bullying, harassment and trauma and stress-related issues and their management.
Semester 3 students will undertake a work-based project which will require them to engage at an individual level in an area of practice that will demonstrate a consolidation of their confidence and competence as an employee support and wellbeing practitioner through the application to practice of the knowledge and skills acquired from the programme.

Applicants require a Level 6 Higher Certificate Award, qualification in the area or in a cognate discipline, such as custodial care, criminology, sociology, politics, law, psychology or equivalent, and must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, where necessary.
In the instance that programme applicants do not meet the initial entry requirements set out for the programme they may be eligible to be considered for admission under SETUs (Waterford) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.
