SETU is dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity. We recognise that racism exists in society and within institutions, and we are committed to actively combatting it in higher education. This is an ongoing journey that we are committed to, and together, we can create a campus that celebrates the richness of diversity and empowers everyone to succeed.
Signing of the HEA Anti-Racism Principles
In March 2023, the HEA launched its Anti-Racism Principles which aim to harness the power of Irish HEIs as leaders of positive societal change that challenges racial inequality. SETU’s signing of the principles signifies the university’s willingness to create change and support diversity in its community.
SETU is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive university that stands against racism and fosters a genuine sense of belonging and empowerment for everyone in our community.

Let’s talk about race in the Higher Education Sector
Part of our roles in SETU is to foster a campus that’s inclusive and safe for everyone, including staff, students, and visitors. To support us in this endeavor, the EDI office provides access to the IUA’s online training programme, Let’s Talk About Race in the Higher Education Sector. This 45-minute module awards a digital certificate upon completion. You can access the training module by logging into Microsoft Teams and navigating to the CW-SETU CW Staff Hub.
Reporting and supports
If you ever face racial discrimination and feel ready to talk about it, we encourage you to reach out to us. There are many ways you can share your concerns, let the university know what happened, and work together towards finding a solution. Reports of racial discrimination will be treated with the highest level of seriousness, objectivity, and respect for everyone's rights and feelings.
Speak Out
Speak Out is an online anonymous reporting tool to disclose incidents of bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, discrimination, hate crime, coercive behaviour/control, stalking, assault, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape. The tool will help you to find relevant supports and highlight formal reporting procedures, should you wish to use them. It is important to remember that as the tool is completely anonymous, we have no way to identify or contact any member of the University community. Please report one incident, or series of related incidents at a time; this is to ensure that we can understand the nature of your experience.
