South East Technological University (SETU) BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering student Conor found work placement extremely helpful as he could see everything that he learned being put into practice in a real life situation.

"If you are interested in engineering and are unsure about what stream you would like to do, I would recommend Common Engineering as it allows students to try out each stream within a short time frame" SETU Student, Conor Tull

Conor Tull is from Wexford and is a past pupil of St Mary's CBS Enniscorthy, Co Wexford and is a current student at SETU.

Fascinating comparisons

I wanted to study Electronic Engineering as I have had an interest in electronics most of my life and especially since the beginning of secondary school. I decided to study at SETU as I was impressed by the amount of facilities available to students. This includes things that are relevant to my course, but also other services or facilities available to students such as the students union. I also wanted to study at SETU as I began my course through the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Common Entry). Even though I was pretty sure I wanted to do Electronic Engineering, it was interesting to see how the other fields of engineering compare to the electronics stream and for people who are unsure about what engineering stream they wish to do, it allows them to get a feel for each one.

Work placement

Highlights of my college experience so far in SETU include my work placement and I'm looking forward to starting my final year project. Certain subjects in my course I also found more interesting such as the programming aspect of the course. I am currently on my work placement, but so far it has benefited me by showing where all the information I have learned is used within the industry. Work Placement is the perfect way to see how it is used and is a nice change of pace.

Student lecturer dynamics

I would recommend studying at SETU because, as mentioned before, the range of facilities and services available to students. If I had to say anything else, it would have to be the dynamic between students and lecturers in regards to looking for help or if a student is having trouble. Many of the lecturers are flexible and willing to help.

Multiple streams on offer

If you are interested in engineering and are unsure about what stream you would like to do, I would recommend Common Engineering as it allows students to try out each stream within a short time frame. I would also tell students if they have problems regarding subjects or if they are struggling, tell their lecturers or course heads because they are there to help.
