The Disability Office has a designated learning support centre known as the ‘Academic Skills Centre’ or ASC for students registered and approved for learning support with the Disability Office. Learning support tutors meet with students and assist with a variety of academic skills such as :

  • Academic writing
  • Notes management
  • Learning styles
  • Information recall/mind mapping
  • Reading
  • Assignment planning
  • Presentation skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Time management
  • Exam techniques
  • Proofreading

The role of the learning support tutor is purely to assist the student with their academic work and to support their ability to learn rather than subject specific tuition

The centre also offers IT facilitates such as printing, scanning and photocopying. All PCs have specialist assistive technology software such as Read and Write Gold and Ginger.
