Biography

Nóra B. Kavanagh was the first music student to be conferred with First Class Honours from the B.A.Mus (Hons) degree at Waterford Regional Technical College in 1994. Her position as music lecturer began in 1995 specialising in Irish Traditional Music History and Performance. To date Nóra has completed a Master's Degree in Research & Performance (2001) and a Master's Degree in Teaching & Learning in Further & Higher Education (2011). Both Masters were awarded with first class honours. She is an advocate for lifelong learning, facilitating learning in an inclusive environment and embracing new challenges in particular e-learning. Published Music & Memories (2020) and composed Draíocht Phort Láirge a suite of twelve pieces (2022). 

Alongside her duties at SETU, Nóra is a well-established music teacher and musical director in the South-East Region. Musical Director with the following ensembles;

  • Waterford CCÉ Traditional Ensemble (2004-2006)
  • Craobh Nua (2008-2011)
  • Casóg (2013-2014)
  • Music Generation Waterford Senior Traditional Orchestra (2019-2022)
