Biography
Mary O'Connell studied modern languages, literature, translation and pedagogy through Dublin City University, Universitaet des Saarlandes (Germany) and the University of Cambridge. She has worked as a professional teacher/translator/interpreter for both government and private industry and has been a full-time language teacher since 1991. She currently teaches English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to international students at under- and post-graduate level at WIT, specialising in E(G)AP and international examination preparation. As the EFL co-ordinator, she works closely with the International Office at WIT, as well as staff and students across the relevant academic departments to ensure that the learning experience for all international students is both educational and enjoyable.
Mary O'Connell has been a language teacher in the tertiary sector since 1991. Her full-time posts include: Waterford Institute of Technology: English as Foreign Language (EGAP, ESAP, GE, IELTS, Literature & Film), German Language & Literature, Translation Studies; Universitaet Bayreuth, Germany: English Language & Literature, Cultural Studies, Drama; and Dublin City University: German-English Translating/Interpreting.
In addition, Ms. O'Connell has extensive experience teaching to various international agencies and companies including the German International Olympic Committee (Berlin) and Glen Dimplex (Europe).
