Biography
Having studied and worked in the technology sector for nine years, an opportunity presented itself to combine skills in the areas of music and technology through an MA in Music and Media Technology in Trinity College Dublin. Mark graduated from this course with first class honours in 2008. Part of his research on this MA saw him broadcast the first ever surround sound content on the digital radio network in Ireland in conjunction with RTE Radio. The braodcast included some of his own electroacoustic compositions.

With King Kong Company he played on the biggest festival stages in Ireland and Europe (including Glastonbury and Electric Picnic), and in 2017 they were invited to play at Áras an Uachtaráin by President Higgins. In September 2018 King Kong Compnay were awarded the Bram Stoker Medal for Entertainment from the Philosphical Society in Trinity College Dublin.
Within the media sector, Mark has regularly contributed to RTE Radio 1, Today FM and WLR FM. He was a columinst with The Irish Times for three years and has also written for The Irish Independent.
'A Year of Festivals in Ireland' was his first book and was published in 2014 by New Island. This book won the Travel Book of The Year award at the 2015 Irish Travel Writers Awards.
Mark's blog was winner of the Best Popular Culture Blog at the Irish Blog Awards in 2013.
Lecturing in Waterford Institute of Technology as part of the BA Music Degree and BSc in Entertainment Systems since 2008. Areas of responsibility include Creative Music Technology, Synthesis and Sampling, Professional Practice for Musicians, Recording Techniques, Sound Design and Digital Audio Editing. Responsibilities also include postgraduate supervision.
Traveled twice to Jamaica on a work/education program with the State University of New York. Taught music in primary schools and trained sound engineers and performers to use equipment in a recoding studio built to raise funds for a HIV centre in Northern Jamaica.
Currentlyworking towards a PhD in the area of Music Industry Ethics.
Mainstage and headline slots at many of Europes major music venues and festivals with King Kong Company.
Composed, arranged and recorded the theme music for the opneing extravaganza for Cork City of Culture 2005. Broadcast twice on RTE Television.
Composed, arranged and recorded award winning pieces for street theatre company Spraoi.
Sound design and composition for the play Brighton by Jim Nolan. Toured nationally.
Soud design for The Outsiders by David McWilliams at The Abbey.
Technical Engineer with Kalem Technologies, a company responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of system control and data analysis systems for industrial clients.
Weekly column in The Ticket supplement of The Irish Times every Friday. This column received an award from the Association of Irish Festivals and Events in October 2012.
Contributor to John Murray Show on RTE Radio 1 (Ireland's national broadcaster). Present, record, edit and upload 6 - 10 minute audio diary pieces from around Ireland.
