Biography
Dr. Kathleen Grennan is a lecturer in data analysis, research methods, forensic science and analytical science at Waterford Institute of Technology.
She graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Analytical Science from Dublin City Unviersity (DCU) in 1999. She then undertook Ph.D. studies at the same university on the development of antibody-based biosensors, writing and defending her Ph.D. thesis through Irish - "Forbairtí in imdhíonbhraiteoirí leictricemiceacha'.
In 2004 she was appointed as assistant lecturer in analytical science at DCU, before taking a lecturuing position at WIT in 2005. She is currently the course leader of the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Analytical Science with Quality Management programmes, and the Certificate in Advanced Analytical Techniques.

Le linn mo chuid taighde a dhéanamh, chuir mé mo thorthaí i láthair trí ghaeilge ag comhdhálacha agus seisiún póstaer. Tá roinnt ailt scríofa agam ar ábhair eolaíochta éagsúla i bhfoilseacháin dírithe do dhaltaí bunscoile, méanscoile agus mic léinn.
I have an interest in developing resources for technology-enhanced learning in the Department of Science at WIT. I currently deliver a module in research methods on the MSc in Analytical Science with Quality Management programme through blended learning with lectures and tutorials delivered entirely online. I have also developed video resources and screen-casts demonstrating experimental techniques and IT skills for several undergraduate modules. All of these are available to students through WIT's virtual learning environment Moodle.
In 2016 I was awarded funding under the Transformation Through Collaboration project funded by Ireland’s National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, and was recruited as a 'digital champion' for WIT. My project involves developing a suite of e-learning resouces that will enable undergraduate students to learn how to perform data analysis skills in MS Excel, and how to apply these to their research project work.
I am currently involved in a TEAM (Technology Enhanced Assessment Methods) project along with colleages in WIT and IT Carlow. My part of the project is to use e-learning strategies to enhance the teaching and learning of a module I deliver in Forensic Science.
