Biography
John is currently a Lecturer in Business Information Systems with the Department of Accountancy and Economics, School of Business at Waterford Institute of Technology. Previously, he was a Doctoral Researcher in the Centre for Information Systems and Techno-culture (INSYTE) at Waterford Institute of Technology.
He earned his PhD in Waterford Institute of Technology in 2019 under the supervision of INSYTE’s Dr. Larry Stapleton, Examiners: Prof. Dietrich Brandt - RWTH Aachen University and Dr. Jim Lawlor - Waterford Institute of Technology. The title of his thesis was ‘Systemic Risk in Information Systems through a Socio-Technical Lens: A case study of banking failure in Ireland’. The aim of the research was to broaden the basis of risk assumptions, rationality and knowledge reframing risk as a socio-technical issue using the Irish banking crisis as a case study. The socio-technical framework developed synthesises important dimensions which can better inform systemic risk management and thinking from the perspective of systems engineering. He also received a BSc (Hons) in Commercial Software Development and a MSc in Computing (Information Systems Processes) both from Waterford Institute of Technology.
