Teaching has covered programmes across the Schools of Business, Science, Humanities and Engineering. This has involved delivery at certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate levels. Modules have dealt with financial management, financial services, insurance, lending, financial regulation, financial accounting,management accounting, auditing, taxation, small business management, innovation and entrepreneurship.Student cohorts consisted of full time students, part time students and executives.
International students participating in these programmes have come from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Malayasia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Phillipines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, UK, and USA,
Guest lectures have been delivered in Memorial University of Newfoundland, Maynooth University, Rostock University, and University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.
Trained as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand ( now Pricewaterhousecoopers) in Dublin where experience covered assurance, insolvency, taxation and accounts preparation (1982-88). Completed secondment to St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands.
Joined Irish Life Assurance Plc in 1988 and worked in taxation and management accounting areas. Dealt with tax planning and compliance as well as financial and management reporting. Worked with colleagues from IT, surveying, investment, legal, accounting, actuarial, customer service and marketing disciplines. Dealt with Irish , UK, French, German, Dutch, and Belgian tax authorities.
Academic member of the Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) : 2018 to date.
Current President of Association of Canadian Studies in Ireland. Council Member of the Association of Canadian Studies in Ireland 2013 to date
Board Member of Waterford Credit Union 2007-2014. In that period served as Treasurer 2009-2011 and on Board committees dealing with Strategy, Investments,Remuneration and Nominations.

Honorary Auditor of the Irish Accounting & Finance Association. 2006-2008

He also served three terms as a member of the Consumer Consultative Panel of the Irish Financial Regulator, one term as an academic expert on the Stakeholder Consultative Group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority, and several terms on the Board of Waterford Credit Union as a Board member and Treasurer and Chair of its Investment Committee.
He was a Trustee of the Irish Life Staff Profit Sharing Scheme and a Board member of Waterford Institute of Technology.
He served on the Risk Management Advisory Committee, the Commercialisation Committee, and the Academic Council of Waterford Institute of Technology. He continued to serve on the first Academic Council of South East Technological University following its establishment.
Currently he is in his second term as an executive director of the International Council of Canadian studies.
