Biography

Geraldine is currently a nurse lecturer in the Department of Nursing & Healthcare since 2019. She is a Registered General Nurse with over 20 years clinical nursing experience.  This experience includes over 10 years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care and a key role model for specialist nursing practice providing mentorship, preceptorship, teaching, facilitation and supervisory skills for all nurses and health care providers.

Geraldine is also a Registered Nurse Tutor with NMBI and holds a Universal Badge in Teaching and Learning. She holds a BSc in Nursing, a MSc in Palliative Care, a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Education and is awarded membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. Geraldine is a PhD Candidate in the area of Undergraduate Nurse Education in Palliative Care.  

As a member of the faculty and a Registered Nurse Tutor in SETU, Geraldine teaches and facilitates learning across many modules of the undergraduate and post-graduate nursing and healthcare programmes. She has been instrumental in co-developing and delivering education on a level 9 Palliative Care Programme for Healthcare Professionals and is module lead for the Year 4 Palliative & Cancer Care module on the General Nursing BSc programme.

 Along with Geraldine’s passion for Palliative Care education, she was involved in the development, change and approach in the delivery of high quality clinical skills in the clinical laboratories, in the Nursing & Health Sciences department. Delivering education and support in undergraduate clinical skills is paramount in instilling confidence and competence in students, enhancing clinical practice and improving patient care. This was recognised by the students Teacher Hero Awardee as nominated by students in 2021.
