Research Interests

Since 2015 the focus of my research has been on Injury epidemiology and wellness monitoring in adolescent and collegiate sports participants.  Initial emphasis was on establishing baseline data in terms of injury incidence and risk, as part of this evaluation of existing therapeutic and injury prevention strategies was also explored.

A more recent focus on wellness monitoring and optimal strategies of wellness implementation has evolved and is ongoing.

A new collaboration in 2016 presented an opportunity for an additional sports related research project to monitor the prevalence of concussion across several sporting disciplines with current research exploring potential objective markers in identification of this injury.

Engagement and Collaboration

Through past and current research initiatives strong collaborations exist between other Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) including University College Dublin and Waterford Institute of Technology as well as national sporting bodies including the GAA and IRFU.  Further collaboration negotiations are ongoing with charitable and not for profit organisations in the health sector all with the overarching aim of translating research to practice.
