Biography

Chris is a Civil Engineer and a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Structural Engineers.  He joined IT Carlow in Nov 2004.  He lectures across all the programmes in the Department of the Built Environment delivering modules on Structures, Management, Materials, Building Performance and Construction Technology.

 

Chris regularly sits on interview boards for Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineer Interviews.  He has delivered courses on Public Speaking, Assertiveness and Running Meetings at Engineers Ireland.  He acts in a consultancy role to An Rothar Nua on the development of the Public Bikeshare schemes in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.

 

Prior to joining IT Carlow Chris worked with Civil Engineering Consultants and Contractors in Ireland and the UK on the structural design and construction of Buildings, Bridges and Water Retaining Structures.  He was involved in projects in the UK, Ireland, Dubai, Japan, Hong Kong and the Dominican Republic.  He also worked for 5 years as the Group Development Manager for a large chain of builder merchants where he was responsible for managing the development of new branches, the redevelopment of existing branches, and a variety of special projects.

 

Outside of work, Chris has a keen interest in many sports and a particular weakness for underperforming soccer teams.  He is an active member of Toastmasters.  A keen hill walker, he finally completed the Camino to Santiago De Compostela in August 2023.  As the unofficial photographer for the Department of the Built Environment, many of his photographs are on display in the engineering labs at SETU Carlow.
