WIT Career Experience
Since 2003 she has lectured in the Department of Computing in Waterford Institute of Technology. She is involved in the supervision of undergraduate projects & postgraduate dissertations. Brenda was programme leader on the Bachelor of Science Software Systems Development Degree (Hons) from 2010 to 2013. She lectures on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School of Science in the following subject areas:
Web Development, Database Modelling, Database Systems, Meta Information, Business Intelligence, and Data Analytics.
Brenda currently teaches at undergraduate, higher diploma and postgraduate levels. The higher diploma students vary in their original disciplines, the MSc is delivered in part time mode to full time employees, and finally many undergraduate students need encouragement and motivation to ensure engagement. These different student groups require flexibility and variation in teaching style and the delivery of content. Brenda utilizes elearning modes of teaching to support the lecture material.
She has been involved in the development of many programmes in the department of computing. Most recently the MSc in Enterprise Software Development and Higher Diploma in Business Systems Analysis. Brenda specializes in the data science area, developing modules in relational databases, NoSQL databases, Data analytics, Business Intelligence and data mining.
Brenda’s PhD investigated the socialization tactics used in virtual information systems development teams.

After graduating with an Honours degree in commercial software development Brenda worked for three years as a database programmer for Honeywell Application Services. There she gained experience in analysis, design and implementation of database and data warehouse solutions. She also completed professional training in requirements engineering, six sigma green belt, project management and Oracle certification in PL/SQL, PL/SQL advanced and database administration.
