Biography
I joined SETU in 2020, having worked most of my life at operational level in the seaport sector. During my working life education was a main interest of mine, and that continues today.
I teach management subjects, with a particular interest in strategic management.
For many years I taught professional examination subjects for the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers London.
I am course leader for the BBS (ACCS) programme- a programme of which I am a former graduate.
With my colleagues Professors Denis Harrington, Felicity Kelliher and Tazeeb Rajwani I have published in journals such as International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research; Hospitality and Society; European Journal of Training and Development, Industry & Higher Education;The International Journal of Instructional Cases, the Irish Journal of Management and International Journal of Organisational Analysis.
I am a regular presenter at management conferences.
My primary research interests are in the area of management capability and innovation, specifically in the context of the rural micro firm. Secondary research interests include third level teaching and learning and seaport management.
I am co-supervisor on a PhD investigating servant leadership in the hotel context, and PI on a PhD project investigating network facilitated farmer innovation capability, and second co-supervisor on a TU RISE funded project modelling community-led rural village regeneration underpinned by social network theory.
I have reviewed research papers for a number of journals and at conference level, including International Small Business Journal; International Journal of Organisational Analysis; Studies in Continuing Education and Irish Journal of Management. I am an external examiner at ATU Sligo. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and continue to particpate in the Irish branch.
