My Professional Experience
Prior to my current role at SETU I worked in a variety of roles within ESB, Waterford City Council and the Department of Social Welfare. These positions gave me insight into planning, structures and people management within public service environments and the contrast with private enterprise.
I believe that student needs and levels are central to the teaching process and that it is essential to constantly innovate with fresh approaches and teaching methodologies. Based on the philosophy that’ we cannot teach people anything we can only help them to discover it within themselves’ Galileo, I would facilitate students in experiential learning and the integration of theory with practice. To this end I would have adapted my teaching style to incorporate problem based learning and blended learning approaches. I have run workshops and role-plays that give insight into practical techniques for areas such as time management, goal setting and mock interviews for both undergraduates, post graduates and business owners.
On a broader level I have been a committee member who has contributed to a new induction process for first years, the first year engagement committee and an integration project which sees students being assessed across all their modules in holistic manner.
