Biography

Annalousie Muldoon is part of the course leader team for the BSc. Health and Exercise Science and is the contact person for the students in 3rd year..  Annalouise completed a BSc in Chemistry, Physical Education and Sport Science from Loughborough University in the UK and a masters in Physical Activity Promotion in the Workplace from SETU.  Annalouise lectures in Exercise Prescription, Exercise as Medicine and Active Ageing modules here in SETU. 

Annalouise teaches across the department of Sport and Exercise Science, however her areas of specialism are Exercise Prescription and programme design for healthy adult and older populations as well as those who have diagnosed chronic disease.  She is also involved supervision of undergraduate final year projects.  Students on the BBS Recreation and Sport Management and BSc Exercise Science are eligible to join the register of exercise professionals, overseen by REPS Ireland upon successful completion of various stages of their studies.  These qualifications allow the students to work as professionals in the Fitness Industry here in Ireland and abroad.  As part of these modules, Annalouise has arranged for students to get experience of working with the relevant population groups to help them to apply the knowledge and skills learned in class to a real world setting.

Previously involved in research projects examining physical activity participation in mass events such as the Women's Mini marathon and the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford as well as the Waterford Active Schools project.  Current area of interest is exercise prescription and participation in pregnancy and for those with existing chronic conditions.  Annalouise is also on the steering committee for a Post Doctoral project looking at lifestyle interventions for menopausal women.

Annalousie worked as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor in Dublin before moving to Waterford to take up a position as lab technician in the Human Performance lab here in SETU and later joined the academic staff in the department.  During her time in the department, Annalouise has undertaken a number of roles including REPS Ireland co-ordinator.  REPS Ireland are the register of Exercise Professionals in Ireland and Annalouise has responsibilty for ensuring that our designated courses meet the Europe Active Standards for the professional qualifications that are available to our students here in SETU.  Students on the relevant courses are eligible for Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Exercise for Health Specialist accreditations upon successful completion of their studies.

Over the last 5 years, Annalouise has developed in interest in the area of Clinical Exercise Physiology and Exercise as Medicine.  Her teaching has moved in this vane and she has undertaken additional qualifications in the area to allow her to work with these populations and provide opportunities for students to get real world experience as well.  Annalouise has overseen ExWell programmes in SETU and is currently running an Active Ageing group in collaboration with the SETU Arena.  She is passionate about this work and continues to further her knowledge and skills in this area.
