Presentation College Carlow past pupil, Aífe Dolan from Carlow, says a social science degree from South East Technological University (SETU) opens up a vast range of possibilities for graduates.

Focus Ireland

I am currently employed with Focus Ireland, and I’m enjoying it so far! The job entails various aspects of social science. I work in the childcare centre so we deal directly with the children. This may involve homework support, after-school activities, etc. We also focus on the kid's parents as well. I eventually plan on doing a master's to become a probation officer in a prison.

Supportive lecturers

I loved my time at SETU, I honestly could not fault the experience I’ve had here in the past three years as a student. The lecturers and staff are amazing and they always made you feel at home, it was genuinely a home away from home. The lecturers came to our level and helped us construct study plans that would enable us to meet our goals. The friends and people that have come into my life in the past three years have had such an impact on me as a person and I couldn’t be more grateful to SETU's small-knit community for helping that happen.

Opening up opportunities

I believe social science opens up so many opportunities. There is such a vast range of possibilities when you finish your degree in the job sector. Doing social science allowed me to have a lot of different options and I was not restricted to just social care. It’s also a three year degree, so there’s plenty of time to advance on to a master's or PhD.
