The president of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) opened SETU’s Department of Architecture & Built Environment’s end of year exhibition, held at its city centre campus.

In opening the exhibition at the Granary in Waterford city on Wednesday evening last, Ms Charlotte Sheridan congratulated the staff and students of the department on the excellent standard of work exhibited.

The President of SETU Professor Veronica Campbell also praised the Department for its ongoing commitment to equipping architectural graduates with the skills necessary to be part of the solution to climate change.

Máire Henry, Head of the Department of Architecture & Built Environment at SETU, welcomed students and their families to a celebration of students work, which explored architectural and technical solutions using the region as a laboratory.

Máire said that “There were many examples which demonstrated where quality architectural ideas can transform, repurpose and reimagine sustainable safe keeping of our urban and rural environments.”

She reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to working with Local Authorities and other external stakeholders to help brainstorm ideas for the region’s continued development.

“The Department of Architecture can be considered as a warehouse of ideas based in the urban centre of Waterford city. Having a creative discipline in the city centre is a huge plus for SETU and for the city,” said Máire.

The exhibition continues until 2 June
