The Executive MBA Programme at SETU Business School is one of the longest running programmes in the country. Since its inception, over 500 students have graduated from the course.

SETU MBA programme leader Dr Tom Egan states: “We consider our MBA programme to be the flagship executive masters course in the south east helping executives hone their leadership skills and expand their learning horizons in a supportive and knowledge-led environment.”

At a recent lunch event, Professor Liam Fahey was awarded with a new distinguished contribution award for his work and support in co-ordinating the US SETU MBA residential. During his distinguished career, Prof. Fahey has taught at Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and at Boston University. He serves as Professor of Management Practice at Babson College and holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Professor Fahey has authored or edited eight books and has written over 50 articles or book chapters. His book, “The Insight Discipline: Crafting New Marketplace Understanding That Makes A Difference”, appeared in late 2018.

He has won awards for his teaching, research and professional service.

Commenting on his award in Waterford, Professor Fahey stated that, “It has been my genuine delight to work with SETU’s Executive MBA groups over the last several years in Boston. In assembling a faculty of business school professors, management consultants, and corporate professionals, I always told them they would be confronted by some of the most inquisitive and demanding brains that Ireland produces—and each MBA class did not let me down. The highest compliment I can extend to the classes is that several faculty members asked if I would include them in the next SETU visit to Boston.”

With many graduates from the programme occupying positions in companies in Ireland and overseas, there is also a strong international dimension to the learning and professional development for students on the programme. Professor Denis Harrington, head of graduate business, said: “Students on our MBA programme have benefited from a dedicated international study programme. We have developed strong international strategic partnerships with schools in the USA and in China.”

The SETU Executive MBA programme has a strong international dimension, offering students opportunities for learning and professional development on a global scale. The program has established strategic partnerships with schools in the United States and China, providing students with international study programs. “Our international management programme for the MBA is now facilitated as a weeklong residential programme in Boston where our students take classes and visit/network with US businesses,” Prof. Harrington added.

In addition to the international focus, the SETU Executive MBA group has achieved notable success. They emerged as winners of the All-Ireland Strategy Case Competition as part of the MBA Association of Ireland National Strategy Competition for the fourth time in 2022. Organised by the MBA Association of Ireland, the competition is open to all MBA programmes across Ireland, past winners having included UCD, NUIG and DCU.
