The Department of Nursing and Health Care poster presentation was awarded first prize at the Inaugural SETU Digital Education Conference.

Ms Tracey Dermody SETU Post Graduate Research Support Officer working in the Department of Nursing and Health delivered two poster presentations at the SETU Digital Education conference on 12 December.

The poster presentations were co-authored by Ms Louise Skerritt, who is a PhD student within the department. This project was supported by the Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Development Units, the Office of Nursing and Midwifery Services Director, the HSE Office of the Chief Clinical Information Officer, and the HSE eHealth team.

The authors presented their experience in adopting digital health technology into clinical practice. The continually evolving landscape of digital health technologies in healthcare and the inevitable integration of digital health records, AI, and virtual reality into clinical practice requires a practical and comprehensive approach to nurse and healthcare education.

Digital health concepts

The integration of digital health concepts and nursing informatics content into nursing undergraduate and post-graduate education can be restricted due to limited access to clinical experts. The authors, who have lived experience in this area, are working with the Department of Nursing and Health Care team to develop educational resources for undergraduate students on this topic.

The topics of the poster presentations were ‘Digitising Wound Assessment, Management, and Documentation within an Irish Public Health Nursing Service – a Proof of Concept Evaluation,’ and ‘Advanced Nurse Practitioners Actualising, Adopting, Integrating, and Championing Digital Transformation a Case Study’.

The win comes on the back of a second-place award at the Better Together for Digital Health, National Digital Health Conference on 1 December 2023 at the Convention Centre Dublin.
