South East Technological University (SETU) Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science (Common Entry) student Moses Ugwulo was always interested in cyber protection but after studying all areas realised that games development was where Moses saw his future.

"I chose applied computing because it allowed me to see what all of the different streams had to offer. I took games development as my stream and I think I will be sticking with it for the rest of my time in SETU." SETU Student, Moses Ugwulo

Moses is from Waterford city and is a past pupil of De La Salle College. He is currently studying applied computing at SETU.

From cybersecurity to gaming

For the longest time I have been interested in cybersecurity, being able to protect my data was something that appealed to me when I was younger. Now, I'm interested in making games because I like the work and effort that goes into making an enjoyable game and I too would like to make very enjoyable games in the future. I chose applied computing because it allowed me to see what all of the different streams had to offer. I took games development as my stream and I think I will be sticking with it for the rest of my time in SETU.

Peer2Peer

I found the Peer2Peer mentors very beneficial. If I had any questions or was confused about how to navigate the campus or couldn't find my class they would be able to guide me in the right direction. They also give really good study advice as well and I found that very beneficial.

Helpful staff

I can say that the academic staff, the lecturers and the mentors have been very helpful in answering any questions I've had about how I was going to access my classes. If you have any questions at all, you can ask the staff, they are all friendly and kind. I found that beneficial for everyone who had any confusion at the start of the semester and with adapting to studying online.

Flexible learning

My advice for those who are considering doing the applied computing course is if you have a fair idea of what you want to do but you're not sure if it'll be for you, you can pick it for your stream in the second semester, see what it's about and if you're not satisfied with it, then you can take a different stream in semester 3. It's important to remember that after you take it you can't change to a different stream. I find that beneficial for people who are undecided or can't choose between two and would like to experience one of them to make up their minds.
