Global exchange initiatives cover a wide range and involve agreements between universities worldwide. These initiatives extend beyond European nations and often involve collaborations formed by individual educational institutions. International exchange programs reach across various locations globally and commonly adhere to a reciprocal agreement, enabling students from each university to swap places for a designated period.
South East Technological University has inter-institutional agreements with a number of university partners outside of the EU.
The sending University/Institute must have an active Exchange Agreement (An Agreement between Universities/Institutes to exchange students) with SETU within the area of which a student wants to study. A coordinator from the sending university submits a nomination form to SETU for the student they are proposing to send to SETU on the International Exchange Programme.
To be nominated, an International Exchange Student Nomination form must be completed by your home University academic advisor and sent to the relevant campus contact i.e. Carlow or Waterford. The form must be submitted by the nomination deadline outlined below.
Partner Nomination Deadline | Student Application Deadline | |
---|---|---|
Autumn Semester (Semester 1) | 15 April | 15 May |
Spring Semester (Semester 2) | 04 October | 14 October |
When SETU receives the nomination, the nomination is cross-checked with the existing Exchange Agreement between the sending University/Institute and SETU to verify if the nomination meets the criteria set out in this agreement.
If the nomination meets the criteria set out in the existing Exchange Agreement the student will receive an email to inform them that their nomination has been approved and they have been offered a place to study on the International Exchange Programme at SETU. For further information see the Academic Requirements section below for the relevant campus you intend to study on.
Included in the student’s nomination approval and mobility acceptance email will be an invitation to complete their online application and information on other documentation that is required to complete the student’s application such as the Learning Agreement.
Important: Even though the student will have been officially offered a place at SETU for their mobility, their online application and supporting documentation such as the Learning Agreement are required to partake as a student at SETU. Inability to successfully complete the application phase will result in the revocation of students place on the International Exchange Programme at SETU.
Once you receive an offer you should start planning your accommodation for your study period.
When the student receives an email informing them that their nomination has been approved and they have been offered a place to study on exchange, they will also receive a link to the Online Application Facility for International Exchange students.
This facility requires a student to provide important contact information and information on the students proposed area of study. The purpose of this facility is to gather relevant information about our prospective students to ensure they are recognised as a student on the University’s registry system.
After the application deadline, students will receive an email providing them with information on how to register as a student before their mobility begins.
After the application deadline, students will receive an email providing them with information on the exchange student Orientation. Orientation is mandatory for all students and typically takes place on the first or second week of September for Semester 1 (September – December) and on the second or third week of January for Semester 2 (January – May).
