Overview
What is this Programme about?
This programme which is supported by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE), aims to give students the skills of systematic recording and the critical examination of existing and proposed ways of performing work, as well as establishing standard times for completing prescribed tasks at a defined level of performance. The skills training will include both theory and practical elements.
It is common to find that engineers who have an in-depth knowledge of products, services, plant and equipment, policies and procedures, need to engage outside expertise to set official time standards. This is both expensive and inefficient as both parties need to pool their knowledge to achieve optimum results. This programme overcomes this skills gap and results in cost saving and improved overall performance. The programme is about up-skilling engineers and others who design and specify work. It covers international best practice in work measurement and methods engineering and incorporates the recommendations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and utilises the British standards Institution (BSI) rating scales.
Who is this Programme for?
Students must be working in manufacturing industry or have previous industry experience. All students on this programme will be required to have at least a Level 6 qualification with significant work experience. Applicants without a Level 6 can apply using the Recognition of Prior Learning route and will be considered on a case by case basis.
Online Support
Students will have full access to a range of supports available online and through Blackboard, our virtual learning environment. These include our new online programme, PACE, which is designed to support students to access and effectively use library resources in order to complete assignments. Additional supports include an Academic Writing Centre and Maths Support Centre, freely available to all students.
Entry Requirements
Students applying for the level 8 award will be required to have a Level 7 qualification in a cognate discipline.
Applicants not meeting the entry criteria above may apply for the programme through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).This learning which may be formal or informal learning may be considered as part of the entry requirements for the programme.
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
All programmes are mapped to the SETU Carlow Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policyhttps://www.itcarlow.ie/resources/quality/quality-policies-procedures.htmand applicants who wish to apply using this route can request the specific RPL for this programme.
SETU Carlows RPL Policy offers clear pathways to the learner for recognition of previous learning undertaken and offer every credit to the learner in completing such learning.
The Programme Board will be responsible for the assessment of entry standards and applications as part of any RPL Process.
