Programme Overview

The Higher Certificate in Business with Law is a broad, foundation-level course designed to introduce students to the closely interconnected worlds of commerce and legal practice. In today's global economy, commercial enterprises face complex regulatory frameworks and international trade policies, while legal practice continuously adapts to evolving business structures. This programme provides an ideal pathway for students interested in both disciplines who want a strong legal emphasis within a business context before committing to a specific specialism.

Practical Learning & Flexible Progression

The course is built for maximum academic and career flexibility. After completing the foundation modules across the first two years, students can choose to continue along the combined business and law route for four years, or transfer directly into a dedicated business or law specialism. Additionally, the programme awards a Higher Certificate upon completion of Year 2, providing a recognized qualification for immediate entry into the workforce or direct progression into Level 7 and Level 8 degree pathways.

Coursework

The curriculum introduces fundamental legal concepts alongside core commercial operations across Years 1 and 2:

  • Core Business Fundamentals: Establishing foundational knowledge in management, organizational behavior, business communications, and commercial operations.
  • Essential Legal Systems & Concepts: Exploring core legal principles relevant to enterprise, including contract law, corporate regulation, and legal frameworks governing business practices.
  • Regulatory & Trade Context: Understanding government regulations, compliance requirements, and international trade policy impacts on corporate entities.

Career Opportunities

Graduates earn a foundation-level qualification that provides entry into entry-level corporate or legal administrative roles, alongside direct academic progression routes:

  • Legal Assistant & Practice Administrator
  • Corporate Compliance & Regulatory Support Officer
  • Business Administrator & Operations Associate
  • Progression to Level 7 / Level 8 Degrees in Business or Law

Upon completion of the two-year programme, graduates possess a versatile foundation in both commercial management and legal principles, leaving them well-prepared to enter employment or progress into specialized degree studies.
