Student Accommodation Financial Assistance for the 2026/2027 academic year

What is the Student Accommodation Assistance?

Established in 2024, the Student Accommodation Assistance Scheme provides targeted financial support towards accommodation costs for Traveller and Roma students and students with care experience. The aim is to alleviate the cost of accommodation as a barrier to accessing and progressing through higher education.

The Student Accommodation Assistance Scheme will continue to be delivered through the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) for the 2026/27 academic year. The funding will be utilised to assist students from Traveller and Roma backgrounds and those with experience of the care system with the cost of accommodation, when living independently, while attending third level education. Funding for subsequent years will be subject to the annual budgetary negotiations and approvals.

Student Accommodation Assistance Eligibility

Students will not be required to prove that they are socio-economically disadvantaged to be eligible for the Student Accommodation Assistance. The purpose of this funding is to address one of the wider challenges of accessing third level education for specified minority group students.

To be eligible to apply for the Student Accommodation Assistance students must satisfy all the following criteria:
