Biography

Rosanne Birney, PhD, is a lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology (Department of Computing and Mathematics).

She obtained an ordinary degree in Multimedia Applications Development in 2004, followed by an honours degree in Information Technology in 2005, both at WIT. In 2005, she was granted an Advanced Scholar award in recognition of achieving the highest grade in the School of Science that year, and was also awarded an IRCSET (Irish Research Council for Science & Technology) PhD research scholarship. In 2012, she completed a PhD in e-Learning at WIT entitled "Reflective Writing: Quantitative Assessment and Identification of Linguistic Features".

Dr. Birney teaches undergraduate modules in WIT. She is currently lecturing on the modules Website Development 1, Web App Development 1, Web App Development 2, Database Design and Implementation, and NoSQL Databases. She also supervises Computing 4th year projects, Higher Diploma final projects and taught MSc students.

Research Interests:   

E-learning, technology-enhanced learning, social software, Web 2.0, pedagogical principles, reflective learning, assessment.
