Students of the BSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Science presented their final year research at a poster session held in the Atrium at SETU Waterford on Thursday May 19, 2022.This was their last assessment as undergraduates on the programme.

Students presented their laboratory or desk-based project work, as a poster presentation to staff and fellow students, with each student also giving a short pitch and answering questions on their work. Dr Kathleen Grennan supported students in the preparation of their posters. There was a broad range of innovative projects, with students demonstrating their research completed over the 12 weeks of term. A sample of some of the 35 projects shown were the development of new methods for wound healing and transdermal drug delivery, green methods for anti-microbial synthesis, use of sustainable methods for the removal of pharmaceuticals from wastewater, design of multi-purpose molecules for catalysis and sensing and development of new spray dried particles for inhalers.

This event also gave students the experience of presenting their work as if presenting at a research conference. Both students and staff enjoyed discussing the project work and to finish their four years at SETU, the event was closed with tea and coffee which was kindly sponsored by the PMBRC at SETU.
The highest ranking five posters were also judged a second time by Prof Peter McLoughlin, Head of School of Science and Computing and Dr Orla O’Donovan Head of Department of Laboratory Sciences at SETU Waterford for two Industry sponsored prizes kindly supported by Sanofi.

The two winners were Niamh Doyle and Niamh Gunning who will both be presented their prizes at the Department of Science Industry Awards Ceremony on June 8, 2022.
