Experience a day in the life of a graphic design student at SETU. Attendees will visit the graphic design studios in SETU and will attend a presentation on the Visual Communications (Design) course and facilities.

Try Graphic Design is designed to help fifth and sixth year students decide whether the BA (Hons) in Design (Visual Communications) is the right choice for them. Further education students are also welcome to attend.

After a short introductory lesson from SETU lecturers, attendees will get the chance to take on a mini graphic design project of their own. The student's work is collected digitally and after the event, each student will receive an A2 poster featuring their design work.

Event Schedule:

  • 10:00am: Meet in the reception area at SETU College Street Campus, Waterford.
  • 10:05am-10:20am: Introduction talk with lecturers about the Visual Communications (Design) programme at SETU.
  • 10:20am-10:40am: Short Lecture: 'Introduction to Visual Identity' - attendees will learn about logos, wordmarks, symbols, emblems and monograms.
  • 10:40am-11:00am: Attendees will visit the design studios to receive their project brief.
  • 11:00am-11:50am: Time to get creative by sketching those concepts and ideas.
  • 11:50am-1:00pm: Move to the computer lab, where students render their work and bring their ideas to life with assistance from design lecturers.
  • 1:00pm-1:40pm: Lunch break - students can bring their own lunch or purchase lunch in the canteen.
  • 1:40pm-3:00pm: Back to the computer lab, students will complete their work digitally.

Follow up after the event: In the days following the event each student's work will be output to an A2 poster print. These posters will be dropped off to local schools so the student can showcase their work and bring it home with them.
