Four workshops
This is a morning event with workshops planned in four main areas:
Finance/Economics: “Deal or no deal”: Richard Burke and Frank Conway
This activity will be based on the popular TV show ‘Deal or no Deal’ and the work of John Sloman. The game provides an individual with the opportunity to win money and maximise their wealth. Throughout the game contestants (students) must make decisions which will impact on their wealth. The game will teach students about important concepts in finance and economics such as probabilities, expected values, negotiating/trading, attitudes to risk, risk management, psychology and cognitive behaviour. The game will also help to educate students on diminishing marginal returns of income. Although not necessary, it is suggested that students watch the TV show ‘deal or no deal' in advance of partaking in the game.
Enterprise: Margaret Tynan
Students can engage in a fun, hands-on enterprise activity that illustrates entrepreneurial thinking required for new business start-up.
Accounting
Behind every good Business decision is a great accountant: Clare Kearney and Paul Treacy.
In this activity, students will join in a fun interactive team-based game to demonstrate how accounting tools and rules contribute to great business decisions.
Social Media Marketing: Paul Morrissey
This will be a fun and interactive exercise analysing the Social Media Marketing effectiveness of famous sports clubs, leading brands and popular culture personalities. Students will evaluate the social media presence and activities of these famous clubs/people/brands to establish who is most effective in their social media output. Different criteria for conducting this analysis will be put in place and the team that identifies the best performers will win this challenge.
