SETU Waterford Science Careers Day will take place on Friday, 22 March 2024

SETU Waterford is looking forward to the Science Careers Day, to be held at the SETU Arena on Friday, 22 March 2024. We are delighted this year to welcome Louise Grubb from Trivium Vet and Q1 Scientific as the recipient of the 2024 Una McDermott Award for Contribution to Science and our keynote speaker. Louise has significantly contributed to the scientific ecosystem of companies that continues to grow in the South East and which provide opportunities for our SETU graduates to find world class jobs. She will be addressing final-year students from our full portfolio of science programmes, including:

  • Agriculture
  • Agricultural Science
  • Food Science with Business/Food Science and Innovation
  • Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science
  • Pharmaceutical Science
  • Physics for Modern Technology
  • Horticulture
  • Forestry

These students are currently engaged in the final year of an ordinary (three-year, Level 7) or honours (four-year, Level 8) degree and will be available for work in June 2024.

This is an ideal opportunity for employers to engage directly with highly-skilled individuals who have been trained to meet the demands of modern industry. The majority of the morning will be devoted to a networking event where employers can meet students and discuss career opportunities. Each employer attending will receive a Careers Day Graduate Handbook containing information on approximately 270 students, including a short biography and contact details (see “Student Profiles” tab for examples from previous years).

Q. How much does it cost? What are the sponsorship options?

A. The event is FREE for employers/companies to attend and have a stand. However, in order to cover the costs of running the event, we do ask companies to consider sponsorship. The options are:

  1. €500 sponsorship - includes a full-page ad in our Graduate Handbook, plus company logo displayed on the digital signage on the day and on our event webpage.
  1. €200 sponsorship – includes company logo displayed in the Graduate Handbook, on the digital signage on the day, and on our event webpage.

Q. How can I book a space and/or get more information on the event?

A. Please contact Eleanor Reade in the School of Science and Computing – [email protected]

Q. What students/prospective recruits will be attending?

A. Final-year students from our full portfolio of science and land science programmes, including Agriculture, Pharmaceutical Science, Forestry, Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science, Physics, Horticulture, Food Science, and Ag Science. These students are currently engaged in the final year of an honours (four-year, Level 8) or ordinary (three-year, Level 7) degree and will be available for work in June 2024. Each employer will also receive a Careers Day Graduate Handbook containing information on approximately 280 students, including a short biography and contact details.

Q. I would like to sponsor. What do I need to do?

A. Sponsorship options are:

If your company would like to sponsor, we can organise an invoice and payment by PO or credit card. Please contact Eleanor Reade in the School of Science and Computing: [email protected]

Q. What are the parking arrangements?

A. Parking is free at the SETU Arena carpark on a first-come, first-serve basis. Free parking is also available in the Greenway carpark just across the road.

Q. What size are the stands for employers?

A. Each company will be allocated a table (either 10 x 8 ft rectangular, or high round 6 ft), fitted with a tablecloth colour-coded according to industry area. You may set up pull-up stands etc behind the table.

Q. When can I set up?

A. The networking session will happen in the main hall of the SETU Arena between 10.40 and 1pm (Link to schedule tab). You are free to arrive as early as you'd like, and of course if you'd like to hear any of the talks you're welcome to attend those, but for those of you who are coming just for the networking session you'll need to be in place for about 10.30am, presumably with your pull up stands set up behind your table etc. We do ask you to please be as quiet as possible when setting up, because the final third of the hall will be being used for talks between 9am and when the networking session starts, and there is only a light material partition between the sections, so any noise being made in the networking area at that time will be heard, and it can be off-putting for speakers. Of course, some small amount of noise is inevitable, but we'd really appreciate it if you could make an effort to set up as quietly as possible.

Q. What about refreshments?

A. Tea/coffee will be available to companies on arrival, and throughout the networking session. We will also be offering a sit-down lunch in the restaurant upstairs at 1pm to any company representatives who can make it.
