HR Excellence in Research Award and the Charter and Code for Researchers

The aim of the Charter and Code for Researchers is to ensure that the nature of the relationship between researchers and employers is conducive to successful research performance and to the career development of researchers. This is an evolving process that enables SETU to place the principles of the European Charter and Code at the core of its policies and practices for research staff. It’s a voluntary process that we have committed to since 2012. It is not a mandatory requirement for participation in EU funded programmes yet, however it is highly valued by the Commission.

In 2014, Waterford Institute of Technology secured the HR Excellence in Research Award in recognition of our on-going commitment to adopting the principles of The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. In 2016 and most recently in 2021, we retained the HR Excellence in Research Award at the renewal phase. We are currently working towards re-application as a joint entity which is due to the Commission in Spring 2025.
